Boomsday

Over Labor day weekend, when most people had gone home to visit their families I stayed in Knoxville and attended the annual event Boomsday, one of the biggest firework shows on this side of the Mississippi. Despite a hurting economy and rain in the morning, Boomsday had quiet a turnout for the fair and show. With 10$ parking and over priced food and drinks, and little kids begging for expensive toys that would break that night. It was shoulder to shoulder walking up and down the road that was surrounded by food stands, toy stands, a karaoke trailer, and a wake board competition; there was definitely an excitement for the upcoming show. It attracted all types, little kids, elderly couples, high school and college students, all for the excitement and the crowd. Then when the time came for the show, you either got an awesome show on one side of the bridge, or a face full of soot and ash from the downwind blow that blocked out the show with smoke. Many people from the parking garage side were disappointed and even though it was disappointing not to see it, the crowd and the pre-show activities made for a fun evening, that for most could have been devastating to the wallet. Even in these harsh times people still go out to have fun on special occasions.

  1. First off, if you took that picture, I give you props. Yeah, I was one of the unfortunate thousands to be on the top of the fourth level of the Neyland garage and couldn't see a thing, but it was still amazing in my opinion. You could see the fireworks for a good while! I had personally never seen the waterfall firework display before, so that was worth going in itself. Also I walked down to the river, so thankfully I didn't have to waste my money on parking. Even though the smoke completely blocked off my view of the grand finale, I could still tell it was amazing because the voice of the fireworks going off made me shiver. I literally could feel the impulse of the explosion going past me and it gave me a sort of awesome forceful pressure that made my hair stand on in. It was really relaxing and even though that sounds weird, it was just incredible and I can't find words to describe the feeling those impulses gave me. So even though everyone was complaining about how they couldn't see and said Boomsday sucked, I absolutely loved it and will, without a doubt, be going back for the following years to come.

  2. it was my first boomsday ever. i was slightly dissappointed in how it turned out regarding the soot and not being able to see most of the fireworks. the environment was pretty fun tho. it was just a bunch of poeple hanging out haveing a good time. it is fun to be able to be with the poeple who are your friends. these events make a lasting impression on many children also which is a wonderful thing for their fture. all in all a pretty good evening.
